Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort Ride by Bob Rosenberg

The ride to Mt. Princeton Resort was a fantastic success. Five bikes, Al's ST, Ed & Mary Kay's new 2010 HD, Dale's, Jim & Dora's and Bob's Wings along with Kathy & Nancy in the Avalon, had sunny skies for the travel south.

Lunch at the Coyote Cantina in Johnson Village satisfied all.

The resort has several new pools in an all adult section. The regular pools with 104 & 96 degree temps were very relaxing after the road trip. Happy Hour and dinner was the evening fare.

Friday morning after our breakfast, found Al & Dale out picture taking, while Ed & Mary Kay hiked the perimeter of the resort. Kathy found the massage table irresistible. The Cash & Rosenberg clans hit the pools one more time.

At checkout, the Avalon headed up 285 while the motos rode north to Buena Vista, Leadville and on to I-70. The temperature dipped to 46 degrees at Fremont Pass (or was it Monarch?). The fall colors on the entire trip were attention-getters. Green chili at Kermit's took the chills away and the ride home was pleasant. For an additional treat, Bob decided that there will be a prize for anyone attending the November CMR meeting with their Princeton wrist band still on.

This trip should have had 15 bikes in place of five. It was 250 miles of great fun and relaxation.

Ride The Passes by Dale McCargar

Bob Rosenburg, Gary Domson, Keith Gentry, Larry Carlson and myself met at the Morrison Conoco and rode to Salida for lunch at the Twisted Cork, and then to South Fork where we headed up to Creede and took a break for the custom car show there. It was very nice.  Lots of older custom cars to view.

We left and rode over Slumgullian Pass, and we decided to rename this ride to the Fall Color ride as the colors were so spectacular.  We spent the night in Gunnison, and had supper at our little Barbeque place just about a half block from the motel.

On Sunday we left Gunnison and headed West, and it was 46 degrees when we left, but it warmed up nicely.  We stopped at the overlook on Hwy 92 going towards Hotchkiss.  What a fantastic view, and the colors were again beautiful. We took Hwy 65 over Grand Mesa, and had lunch in Mesa.  Then on to Craig for the night.

We left Craig, but had a slight delay while Larry adjusted his helmet visor.  Again it was in the low 50's, but it took awhile to warm up, but didn't have to use the electrics, although they were along.  We went through Steamboat and over Rabbit Ears pass and over Trail Ridge in Rocky Mountain National Park.  We saw where the grass fire was, but it was contained by the time we went by.  There was about 200 yards of rough gravely road on the west side of Trail Ridge, but otherwise the road was in good shape.  We did encounter a bit of hail on the east side, but it didn't last long.  Keith and Larry departed for home near the bottom of the pass.  Bob, Gary and I rode the Peak to Peak through Nederland.  Bob continued home on 119, while Gary and I rode down Coal Creek Canyon.  About 1/2 mile down the road, we saw a cow moose in a fenced in area looking for a place to escape.  Interesting to see a moose that close.

We did this entire trip without the assistance of a GPS. All this was accomplished by using a MAP and a rarely used thing called memory!!!!

NEXT MEETING - NOVEMBER 20th

Our next General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 20, at 10:00am.  As usual, thanks to the owners of Fay Myers Motorcycles, it will be held in their second floor meeting room.

Be prepared to:

Sign up for the Holiday Brunch.

Offer suggestions for 2011 Rides.  (We really could use some fresh ideas and Ride Leaders!)

Share ideas about how to increase participation on our rides.

Anything else you’d like to bring up. (Send me your topics so I can get them on the agenda.)

That’s it for now.  Look forward to our November Newsletter when you’ll find out what happened on the final ride of the 2010 Season, and get more information about the November meeting.

Till then, ride safe and have fun.
